another discussion how to eliminate gun violence.
This is why I wrote a half of a year ago.
On October 3 Leah Libresco has published this piece.
First, for a foreseeable future the gun laws can be improved only on a state to state basis.
The second idea is treating guns like cigarettes - if it cannot be banned, at least make some money of it - let's triple the sale tax on all guns, let's make guns too expensive!
Or treat weapons like alcohol - if a town can ban liquor stores, why stop there? It is not (just) about NRA or lobbyists, it is about people - local people.
The third possibility is making all weaponry to disappear - not actually, but just from the view. Why do we have to cover bottles with alcohol but allow to show off guns?! Why do we have non-smoking territories but guns can be seen anywhere? If a militia is allowed it does not mean guns should be allowed everywhere. Keep your guns in such a way that NO ONE can see them - unless you have a special permit (as a hunter, or a policemen, or a private eye).
What is the most surprising to me is that anti-gun activists seems don't know the psychology of the fellow Americans. Even reasonable people in America resent anything with the word "control" in it - it is against American spirit!
So, for starters, just stop calling it "gun control"! Find a better name, like "wise usage of personal weaponry".
Unfortunately, progressives generally ignore human psychology. That is why they only appeal to people who are already agree with their ideas, and do not appeal to people who have to converted!
This short post
provides an illustration of the importance of human psychology in science!
If psychology is important in science, it is hundred times more important in politics!
FOX news have figure it out long time ago.
Progressives, though, still stick to their old fashion ways of doing politics.
They don't even understand that this is the time when politics of individuals is at least as important as politics of ideas (meaning, politics of political groups): read, for example:
Appendix (from August 31, 2019)
There have been a long and useless discussion do we need to ban bump stocks or not?
A bump stock is a slang for a magazine of rounds/bullets.
One of the most famous "bump rifles" is AK-47
In American media it is presented as a "rifle" that can also shoot many rounds in a second using bullets stored in a magazine.
This notion is a complete BS invented to pretend that AK-47 is practically no different from a hunting rifle.
AK-47 was invented as a smaller hand-caring version of a machine gun (BTW: the direct translation from Russian would be "a bullet thorougher"). It's purpose is to shoot many bullets almost at once. But, sometimes, one would need to make a single shot, and that option was included.
In the U.S. people are made to believe that AK-47 and other hand-caring machine guns are just hunting rifles, but sometimes someone could get - probably just for fun - a magazine (bump stock) filled with bullet.
This perception is not different from thinking that a tank is a tractor with a cannon, take a cannon off and you get a tractor (maybe not the best analogy, but OK for now).
a magazine is the essential part of AK-47, or any other automatic weapon and banning magazines is almost pointless, automatic weapon must be banned as a whole. Or at least made so expensive that no male looser could afford it.
